FinderPop 2.3.0.2 Beta

Postby turly » 25 Nov 2010, 08:55

FinderPop 2.3.0.3 Beta (tagged "Two Short Planks") is now available.
NOTE: This is a localisation fix to 2.3.0.2 where I somehow managed to screw up the German and Italian localisations. You can still download 2.3.0.2 here if you really want to. Apologies all around  ... but have a Cool Yule anyway!

  • Fix a bug where ctrl-clicking on an alias A to a folder B would mistakenly allow you to move/copy/alias A into B's children.
  • Improved German localisation - thanks Hajo Bass who sent me the improvements back in August and I'm only incorporating them now - sorry!
  • More complete Italian localisation - thanks Mauro Ferreri and Nello Martuscelli

The previous beta, 2.3.0.1 had:
  • New Template or "Copy" folders: folders whose names end in '---C' are treated specially. They are 'Template' or 'Copy' folders.
  • Switching to a process using FP's Processes submenu no longer adds that process to the Recent list.
  • a partial Italian localisation (the prefPane isn't yet localised, but all the strings are.) Thanks, Nello!

What remains to be done:

* Contextual Menu Support in apps other than the Finder on Snow Leopard
* FinderPop info help tag windows on Cocoa apps in Snow Leopard

If you're installing this over a previous beta, you'll have to restart or logout for it to take effect.

As usual, if there are any issues with this: http://www.fnarr.net/fp

Apparently a mix-up with the changed German and Italian localized strings.

The file
FinderPop.prefPane/Contents/Resources/finderpop-daemon.app/Contents/Resources/fp-patch.bundle/Contents/Resources/German.lproj/Localizable.strings
contains the Italian localized strings instead of the German ones.

The German translation is missing, Italian.lproj also contains the Italian Localizable.strings (and the file InfoPlist.strings is missing)

I suppose that Turly, after reading this, will come with a correction soon.

If you prefer a different language for now, for instance English, you could dig deep down into FinderPop to
FinderPop.prefPane/Contents/Resources/finderpop-daemon.app/Contents/Resources/fp-patch.bundle/Contents/Resources/
then remove German.lproj, copy English.lproj and rename that copy to German.lproj.

Or simply go back to beta 2.3.0.1 for now.

Simply remove the Germal.lproj.
The System will automatically pick the default English.lproj if the lproj corresponding to the language in use by the System is missing,
In MacOS X before Snow Leopard, you also had the option to select the PrefPane in the Finder, press command-i in the Finder and uncheck the languages you didn't want there. Unfortunatly, that option is gone now in 10.6.x.

Yes, sure, that is easier. But it will work only if the first next supported language set in system preferences is English. If a language higher on the list happens to be one of the other languages that FinderPop supports, you will get that language in FinderPop.

The number of supported languages in FP is limited. If your next favorite language is French, you'll be fine since the localization should be fairly up to date for French ;-)
Chances are too that if you want FP to be in ENglish, it's one of your higher rnaking languages in the International Prefpane.
(but I get your point).

Apologies for being late on this (and indeed for it happening at all!)
I'm travelling with work so I won't have a chance to fix this til I get back to my Mac next Monday... I'll update the first post to highlight the bug.
I made a change to the script I use to import localisations and obviously screwed it up... apologies to all affected (and the localisers!)

Think I fixed this localisation screwup in version 2.3.0.3 "Two Short Planks" - available here.

As in, "I'm as thick as two short planks" :-)

EDIT 20101223:
Rather than announcing a new version, I just updated the download link in the first post here to point at 2.3.0.3 instead of the badly-localised 2.3.0.2.
